An all-weather day and night skate park for young people will be a dream come true if Joe Natoli is elected Mayor. Mr Natoli has been listening to skate and bike enthusiasts who really wanted an undercover facility – and together they’ve come up with a truly innovative location. “Todd Henshall approached me and told me he’d heard about skate parks being built under bridges, and that he thought the new Maroochy River Bridge would be perfect,” Mr Natoli said. “Basically on the land where the bridge meets the bank on Bradman Avenue, there is a large area that is under cover. The noise of young people gathering there won’t be a problem because there are only commercial buildings nearby. The bridge itself will provide the protection from our scorching sun and the rain. “There is also an opportunity for a co-op kiosk to be established to be run by the youth themselves. This would be part of a business-mentoring program.” “I have confirmation and in principle support from Main Roads, and the young people will be driving the design,” he said. “This is a terrific example of how the youth and all levels of government can work together to achieve great results,” he said.
