Local Council (Division 2) Candidate Peter Marer has called on the new Mayor and council to make car parking a high priority in the first 100 days of the new Redland City Council.
“In meetings with the residents all over the district there is a
build up of frustration over the lack of available car parking in and
around Cleveland”, said Mr Marer.
“We are being encouraged to use park and ride however the lack of
railway car parks after 7.25am at Cleveland Station is forcing
residents to drive to Ormiston Station or park illegally. Inadequate
undercover car parking means commuters have no option but to return to
uncomfortably hot car or battle the elements when it rains.”
“Shop traders and staff have expressed their frustration at not having long term parking for their needs.”
“This parking shortage is also felt by residents visiting the Hospital
who find it an uncomfortable and stressful experience especially for
urgent cases which need care and attention,” Commented Mr Marer.
“I believe a long term solution centres on the possible use of the
Woolworths car park and or other easily accessible sites in the CBD
which will solve the CBD problem on a long term basis. In terms of
Hospital parking, Queensland Health needs to be part of the
consultation process to solve this problem.”
“Once these issues are solved the Council can start working on
improving the transport infrastructure for Cleveland in the long term.”
