Local Council (Division 2) Candidate Peter Marer has called on the new Mayor and new council to look at alternatives to help stop the daily exodus of Redland residents who are employed or go to tertiary learning outside the Shire.

“A percentage of residents and students have made the choice to seek employment or learning outside the Shire, however I feel that this view could be influenced if the new Redland City promoted a broad range of employment and education opportunities,” said Mr Marer.

“My objective is to encourage State and Federal Government Departments, major financial institutions and educational facilities to look at positive ways of investing in the intelligence we have in the Shire.”

“There is a huge scope for service industry jobs as well as tertiary learning places in the Redlands.”

“The impact of this ‘brain drain’ out of the Shire includes enormous congestion on the Cleveland road system, a serious strain on public transport and a time and financial toll on families.” said Mr Marer.

“Cleveland is not only a great place to live but also a great place to work and learn so I believe the new council must work together to give the people of the Redlands Shire great opportunities to be employed and educated locally.”
