Bev Smith for Mackay - the pitch.

I believe that the NEW Mackay Regional Council has to be made up of a Mayor and Councillors who have passion, enthusiasm   and a strong VISION for the future growth,    planning and development , infrastructure and the very real needs of this community at heart; from the youngest to the oldest….  all inclusive.

I have been a part of the Nutrimetics   Field  Sales Force for over 30 years and have   served this and many others communities in Queensland as a Regional  Sales Director and Executive Sales Manager  for most of  that time.  As a Team Leader, Mentor and Coach I have had the privilege to work closely with women  to help them to develop business building/management and application skills to bring them   into the workforce to subsidise the family income  or to further their management skills to financial independence.

Over that time and throughout many areas of Queensland I have worked with 1000s of Consultants and customers.
Unlike Retail Selling,  Nutrimetics ,"In the Home buying around the old kitchen table with family and friends" is the place where real needs are expressed and that  has made me acutely aware of this community's needs.  This is where women tell you about:
·   their experiences at the Mackay Base hospital with ill and hurt children and the amount of time it took to see a doctor,
·     their driving horrors on our potholed damaged roads,
·     housing/rental affordability, the price of food, petrol and basic  necessities,
·   their concerns  when dropping off and picking up their children from school,
·   the availability  and costs of Child Care
·   the protection of their teenagers  from sexual and drug abuse,
·   the need of help with their ageing parents,
·   the need of better public transport and city centre parking
·   the need of more family and youth facilities and many other issues.

My volunteer work includes 20 years as a R.E. Teacher and I have been involved in many fundraising activities for Cancer  like Lipstick and Shower Gel drives and The Biggest Morning Tea.  I have also worked with many of our Grade 10 and 12 students in grooming to help them present themselves with confidence in the work place.

In 2004, I campaigned as a Federal candidate for Dawson with Family First Party to raise awareness of many  family needs in the community.

I am  very impressed with the quantity and quality of candidates who have nominated which shows that many want change.

So with my Business Management skills and a passion for this community needs I am seeking a position on the NEW Mackay Regional Council as a full-time councillor and am making myself available to the public for discussions.  My husband, Barry, supports my nomination.

So when the public vote for Bev Smith they are voting for a person who cares and is prepared to work hard to have something done to meet their needs.
