The clock is ticking on a plan to fund extra public transport for
Brisbane that will stop thousands of people being left behind on bus
stops.
The comprehensive public transport strategy maps bus
build, maintenance, fuelling, depot space, services and provision of
drivers.
“The clock is ticking for Campbell Newman - he will
only have 48 hours from 5pm today to order the extra buses that will
ease the pain for thousands of bus travellers who are getting left
behind on stops. This is a deadline Campbell Newman can‘t miss,” Greg
Rowell said.

Lord Mayor Campbell Newman and the Mayors of Caboolture, Redcliffe
and Redlands have launched the first Moreton Bay Festival to boost the
profile of the region - as one.
The mayors are seeking to transform Moreton Bay into a Fraser Coast-style eco-destination.
The inaugural Autumn Festival kicks off on 16 March in Sandgate to celebrate the region’s unique natural features.

Lord Mayor Campbell Newman is to transform an old quarry within the
beautiful Karawatha Forest into an eco tourism centrepiece, complete
with its own onsite park ranger.
The Lord Mayor today unveiled his $18 million plan to build a
‘Karawatha Forest Environment Centre’ in the bushland in Brisbane’s
south to rehabilitate the old quarry site.
The 900ha Karawatha Forest was purchased years ago using council’s
Bushland Preservation Levy and is one of the largest areas of remnant
bushland in the city.

Lord Mayor Campbell Newman today announced the famously renamed
‘Clem Jones Tunnel’ (NSBT) is now a massive nine and half months ahead
of schedule.
Over 1,500 metres of the 4.8km tunnel between Woolloongabba and Bowen
Hills has been constructed and five of the 18 bridges are substantially
complete.
Over four million man-hours have been worked by 1,700 people together
with the first of two tunnel boring machines and eight smaller
road-headers.

Lord Mayor Campbell Newman today announced the latest Standard and
Poor Credit Rating has given Brisbane City Council a top-notch bill of
health.
Cr Newman said the internationally recognised agency released an
update that recognised Brisbane’s improved financial position under his
leadership.
The AA+/Negative/A-1+ rating found there was reduced pressure on Council debt levels.
