The Gympie Regional Council consists of the former shires of Kilkivan, Cooloola and Division 3 of Tairo.

An interesting race with the mayor of Cooloola shire Cr Mick Venardos the nominal favorite, and Kilkivan mayor Cr Ron Dyne the dark horse in the field.

Watch for gun lobbyist and controversial councilor Ron Owen to provide the campaign fireworks.
