Patrick Denham for Bundaberg - The pitch

I’m pleased to advise I’m running in the upcoming Bundaberg Regional election for Division 1.

After serving the community for just under 40 years with the Queensland Ambulance Service the last 15 as Officer in Charge and Operations Coordinator Bundaberg Group which covered Gin Gin, Childers, Burnett Coast and Bundaberg.

I now believe it is time for me to put up my hand up and offer my experience to the new Regional Council, in 1991 I went through an amalgamation of the Ambulance and saw the baby thrown out with the water, as experienced and local staff were pushed aside which in turn had us losing years of experience and local knowledge, at the operational level.

It took 5 years to recover, and another review. The new Council cannot afford to have the same happen; we need our entire budget to bring four councils into one with as little disruption to the everyday running of the council and the staff  with no or little additional cost to the rate payers.

We need to get it right at this election; we need councilors who are prepared to work as a team, as the next four years are going to be lot of hard work. There is no place for councilors with a one agenda and do not understand the need for long term planning.

I have a large amount of experience in management, having worked with Local and State Governments over the many years.

My commitment to communities has been recognized with an Australia Day Award, Queens Birthday awards and awards from the Ambulance Service.

I believe my skills will be of great assistance to this new regional council, if elected I will commit 100% of my time to this role, as I know that a large amount has to be done after this election to ensure we can provide a high standard of service to the Regional Community.

I will fight to ensure Division one gets it fair share of the Budget, but we first must ensure all the Region is on the same playing field, if for the betterment of the Region monies need to be spent on urgent project, I will vote for that project.
It is impossible to make promises that when elected I cannot produce, I will take all concerns to council and have a view for the future, but first we have to ensure we have the monies for these projects.

We cannot have grandstanding at this time, we need to get down and have the urgent matters dealt with first, then review the nice to do things.

I 'm known as a straight shooter, who tells it like it is. I have always had an open door policy and always taken on advice for the Community, I will be only too please to meet with any members of the community to discuss their concerns and give my views on the new Regional Council.

I understand financial management within government and am very experienced in budgets and cash flow fore casting, and the need for long term planning.

I have five other Candidates running in this Division and have drawn the sixth position on the ballot paper but believe, I will make the best member for this new regional council.
