Under Greg Rowell and Labor, Brisbane commuters will benefit from a dramatic boost to public transport that will see new and upgraded bus services rolled out across Brisbane.

As Lord Mayor, Greg Rowell would allocate funds in the budget for 20 High Frequency Bus Routes.

Labor’s practical plan would allow an extra 19 million residents to take fast, frequent, reliable bus trips each year.

Residents would benefit from 11 brand new high frequency bus routes launched citywide.

An additional 9 bus routes would be significantly upgraded to ensure residents are able to climb aboard a bus and get moving every 5 minutes in the peak on weekdays.

Across the rest of the day on the 20 high frequency routes, residents would enjoy the convenience of being able to jump on a bus every 15 minutes.

“This is the kind of public transport boost residents have been waiting for,” Lord Mayoral Candidate Greg Rowell said.

“As Lord Mayor I would ensure the Council budget backs Brisbane residents and funds for them a Transit City.

“Under my Transit City plan, Brisbane residents will be able to climb aboard a bus every 5 minutes in the peak on weekdays.

“Labor will deliver practical public transport solutions across our City that will help residents get to work or study on time in the peak and get home to their families quickly at night.

“If I’m elected Lord Mayor, Labor will ensure a bus is available for residents every 5 minutes in the peak along 20 routes right across more than 100 Brisbane suburbs.”

Labor’s pledge to dramatically boost Brisbane’s bus network will transform commuting for residents in some suburbs where they have struggled to get around because they’ve had to wait up to an hour for a bus.

“With sound budget planning, Council can build a Transit City that will ease traffic congestion and get people moving on fast, frequent, reliable public transport,” Greg Rowell said.

“With an extra 19 million residents able to ‘bus it’ each year, that’s an extra 12 million car trips that can be taken off our roads to ease commuter congestion.

“Where possible, Labor’s new High Frequency bus routes have been mapped out along the State Government’s Busways to ensure the quickest trips possible for residents.

“I’m proud of Labor’s Transit City plan which is a practical solution that will boost public transport, ease traffic congestion, and tackle climate change for Brisbane families.”
